Review:
Between 1914 and 1919, a million people died of influenza. Society was more ignorant then. Science and rational thinking was not, then the forces they are today. People were open to all, including the possibility of ghosts.Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall) ståri London twenties be a free thinker, and debunker of the supernatural. A teacher internship (Dominic West) asks her to go to school after the death of a pupil, where unexplained sightings are reported. Florence is not a complete skeptic. She leaves no room for faith, which made me aware that she is agnostic to the ghosts. Basically there are two stories. One is about the death of the student. The second is more interesting and apart from a flurry of second horror films that have vanished from my mind as quickly as the ghostly apparitions in them. He focuses on Florence herself, and I will not say more because I will not spoil it for you. This is not a scary movie, there are many wonders, but some scares. What is a lot, but excitement. Nick Murphy, in his debut feature film, also manages a melancholy mood, crucial for its history. It is no surprise that Rebecca is the daughter of Peter Hall, founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company. She commands on the screen in a way that would make many of their peers to blush with envy. Her character is a difficult task to emulate. Dominic West, his face apelike groundbreaking crime series The Wire, is very good as guilt soldier turned teacher. Imelda Staunton is effective as the school matron. She has that look in his eyes trying to tell us something. I call it an adult film, because the spiritual element becomes auxiliary. Feelings of guilt and loneliness take over as the main themes. Murphy has the acuity to drop ghost story? because otherwise it would be an insult to other coolers, period? and focuses on a story of emotions blocked. Denouement is clever and original. The penultimate revelation would have been a superb end on their own, so having a double-twist is more impressive.www.moseleyb13.com
